Chris Conner scored two goals on Monday night less than 12 hours after he was recalled from AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Conner, who played for Pittsburgh because of injuries to wingers Bill Guerin and Max Talbot, skated with center Sidney Crosby and winger Pascal Dupuis. Those players combined for six points. Conner made a drive of nearly two hours from Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to arrive at Madison Square Garden. He had no idea he’d play with Crosby, a former MVP and scoring champion, until before the game.
“It was probably better that I didn’t know,” he said. “Less thinking.”
Conner’s goal at 10:46 of the third period was the winner.
